The rollercoaster at the edge of your sofa's back. Got your sequins ready?

Emotional triggers. Grinning madly. Then welling up moments later.  Giving a crap about something. Excitement. Every minute dripping with glamour. A few laughs.

There’s one show on the telly right now that's nailing all of these.

And I’ve not even mentioned dancing.

Or Claudia’s fringe.

Will she or won’t she be able to see out of it this week?

Will she walk slap bang into a camera man?

Or into the middle of a dance?

Or Dave Arch?

“Strictly” is back.

Sequins, sass and scintillating colour combos.

Last week two of the judges wore canary and magenta.

It’s a rollercoaster of a show.

And is about so much more than dancing.

It’s about being vulnerable in front of millions of folk.

Every week until you’re shown the door.

Sweating and swearing throughout every rehearsal and then looking polished like a pristine gem for the show.

What feels like interviews on every social media platform, every day.

Gushing about the partner you’ve been paired with.

Cue wide, incredulous eyes and spontaneous waterworks.

(I’m reminded of a classic scene in the film "Four Weddings and a Funeral" focusing on the tearful bride leaving her wedding reception and doing her round of goodbyes “And I know I’ve just met you, but I love you, too”).

Communication?

“Strictly” is a masterclass in communication with an audience.

Partly because of the characters it chooses that bring variety, and when we use variety in how we communicate it’s so much more engaging for our audience.

Here are some of the characters bringing that variety:

Angela Rippon

One word. Icon. Another word. Elegance. And a phrase you’ll be hearing a lot of, a national treasure. Journalist, broadcaster and author, she’s 79 in October, and so anyone judged as being old, which sadly by British standards means over 40, will be cheering loudly for her.

Bobby Brazier

This actor and model is the energiser bunny of the group. Think a young Mick Jagger meets young Chris Martin and add a smile the width of the Golden Gate bridge. Absolutely brimming with enthusiasm.

Annabel Croft

Former British number one tennis player, Annabel is charming and sweet. And sadly recently widowed. She’s already emotionally broken her partner, Johannes, (possibly one of the nicest men on the planet) and there’s already been crying and handholding on the couch.

And they’ve not even danced together, yet.

Les Dennis

Comedian, entertainer and quiz master of "Family Fortunes." My money’s on his first dance involving a loud buzzer and us learning the results of "what our survey said.”

Will you be watching “Strictly?”

Are you one of the audience who love the thrills and spills it brings into your living room on a Saturday and Sunday night?
