How structure can help your communication sing

This is called the curious incident of the fish burger in the fridge.

So, picture the scene. I'm standing in front of the fridge, I'm staring at the shelves and I can't find it. Where is it? Where is it? I'm looking for the fish burger that was left over from last night's dinner to put towards a salad for lunch and I cannot find it.

And then I see it, but it's not where I thought it was. It’s here in the pink container, not the clear container.

And this happens all the time with our communication. We use words that make sense, but the way we put them together, it's a bit fuzzy, it's a bit cloudy and our audience doesn't really get it.

And that's where using structure can really help. So, try using the structure. It's very simple. It's called the PEEP model and it stands for Point, Explain, Example and Point again. So, here's an example. So the point is when we used structure, it can make our communication easier to understand.

And the explanation of that is that when our communication is easier to understand, it's better for our audience, it's better for us. And an example of that is that it can reduce the length of meetings. Wouldn't that be fantastic? So the point is that structure can help us clearly communicate.

So think about that - PEEP. Point, Explain, Example, Point. And the next time you're going to a meeting or you're presenting, how can you use this structure to help clarify your communication and help yourself and help your audience?
