How coaching helps you understand yourself better

Thinking and feeling. Making considered decisions and being led by emotions. Opposite ends of the spectrum.

I watched Moonstruck this weekend, a film that won three Oscars: two for actresses, Cher and Olympia Dukakis, and one for the screenwriter, John Patrick Shanley.

Now Moonstruck isn’t a new film. It was made in 1987.

But its themes are universal.

But if you haven’t seen it, in short, go and watch it.

It’s warm and wise.

And the writing is whip smart and very funny.

It’s about doing the right thing, knowing you’re doing the right thing, doing the wrong thing, knowing what to do when you’re doing the wrong thing, being in control of your own destiny, or settling for, well, settling.

And threaded into the storyline is the opera, La bohéme.

A family that loves each other and drives each other nuts.

What might happen if you discover that you’re with the wrong brother.

And a moon that is magical and inspires the characters with lust, love, and longing.

But star studded Oscar winning films aside, how do you make decisions?

Are you ruled by your heart or your head?

Do you listen to your instincts and feelings?

Or is logic key?

And - here’s perhaps the question.

Do you know where your feelings stop and where your thinking starts?

Coaching is a great space to stop and get closer to where you’re at and how you are with what’s going on around you.

Open up the hood and dig around a little.

To explore what’s really happening.

And if how you’re responding to events in your life is in line with outcomes you’d like.

Or… if you’re settling.

✅ Where do you put thinking in charge?

✅ When do you listen to your emotions?

✅ How much control do you feel you have?
